How sails really work

I’ve been a dinghy racer most of my life but luckily now a cruiser too. I would argue that speed however is a key part of prudent seamanship, home before the tide or weather changes as an example.
I found this video very interesting, the guy is a yacht cruiser but lots of relevant stuff here. The second half is more relevant but the first half help understand what follows.

It is mainly relevant to sloop rigs.

My key take always
⭐️ the importance of the jib
⭐️ but cats can be sailed well if you know how
⭐️ looking at the wake to understand leeway
⭐️ why it’s better to reef main than drop the jib
⭐️ efficiency get down wind without a spinnaker
