Popup Tent

In a earlier post https://tinkboats.com/2024/09/16/sleeping-on-a-gull-again/ I talked about my attempt to fit a £15 Lidl tent (rocktrail) on the Gull.

Last Saturday this was put to full test, two people on board and VERY heavy rain overnight.

This was done with the mast in the rear position and this didn’t allow the tent to fully open up. This resulted in the inner and out tents to touching and there was some water in the tent. It did rain hard, there was so much water in the Gull the bilge pump turned on when I sat forwards.

Yesterday I added a tackle to the forestay with a max off limit. I also have spliced to eyes near the chain plates, a rolling hitch onto the shroud allows the mast to be moved on the water

  • Tie lines to the shrouds
  • Move fast pin to top hole
  • Release forestay (limit controls the amount of movement)
  • Lift mast into the other position
  • Reverse above to tension up mast

This lets the tent to be fully erected, there are hooks on the tie downs and guy ropes so putting up will be quick, but not elegant…..
