Ila Wa’a is symmetrical for and aft and I was thinking about a few proa experiments. From nowhere the idea of rowing popped into my head. This afternoon some bits of wood strategically lashed and I had a rowing canoe.

The position was just done by eye and probably could have been a little further forward. I took a little row up the Tamar and all was well. The old bow was now the stern which originally was the bow before I fitted the mast tube. As I rowed she was quite high in the stern and did not track well. This set-up had the outriggers under the yoke resulting in the rowlock being quite high.
As I passed the ballast pond I decided to land at the Sailing Club, a quick pint while I did some adjustments. I moved the seat forward, put the outriggers on top of the yoke and generally moved everything further forward.

Back on the water this was an improvement. The whole system was twisting and moving about due to the temporary nature of the experiment but showed sufficient promise that I have ordered a proper set of sockets and will continue the experiment. The real positive point being Iki Wa’a is still light enough to carry over the road and the few hundred yards across the beach.
